#ACR25 Sheds Light on Disparities, Age-Related Trends, and Epidemiology in Autoimmune Rheumatic Diseases At #ACR25, new research explored critical disparities and epidemiologic trends shaping outcomes in autoimmune rheumatic diseases across diverse populations and age groups. https://t.co/CPob0ppjv3

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a burden on the bones—both literally and diagnostically. The disease’s dual nature, marked by chronic inflammation and abnormal new bone formation, complicates the assessment of bone health. While inflammation erodes trabecular bone, syndesmophytes and ligamentous calcifications can falsely elevate spine bone mineral density (BMD) readings on standard dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA).

What happens if you have #axSpA & concomitant #FM?
Pts with both have less TNFi retention,
-residual pain may lead to d/c Rx.
Need to determine if axSpA pt has #fibromyalgia as there may not be objective findings if no peripheral arthritis in axSpA.

In AxSpA, an 8-week personalized exercise program improved trunk strength (+14.1%), mobility (+14.9%), and cardiorespiratory fitness ( increased oxygen pulse, ventilatory efficiency, anaerobic threshold). BASDAI and chest expansion also improved. Supports tailored rehab based on https://t.co/jawosa2AJK

In early axSpA vs non-axSpA CBP, 2 year spinal x-ray progression was minimal in both groups. But on MRI, fat lesions increased significantly in axSpA (0.16 units/yr vs –0.02), with 15% having ≥3 lesions at 2 year vs 1% in non-axSpA. Fat lesions may signal early structural https://t.co/zvgU1Gt0po
