Vasculitis myths/pearls by Dr J Stone:
- steroids can fail 60% pts (side effects/not work) w/GCA in first 24 wks (use TCZ early!)
- GPA pts who still have some dz activity, add some CYP
-AAV can flare even when B cells are not measurable (B cells are there!)

Can you engage patients in research?
You can, and you should! Vincent DelGaizo shows various studies in which patients participated in the design, recruitment, survey and material creation. Resulted in some of the most successful studies in #pedirheum! #ACR19 @RheumNow @carrainc https://t.co/QQdF4fuqSh

#acr19 @RheumNow Pearls by Dr Sterling West
1. For pts with gout: as about energy drink consumption
2. Dry joint tap- blow out needle onto the slide
3. Consider CPPD in pts with “seroneg RA”- May not have typical acute flare

In our chronic disease cohort, the accuracy of wearables in measuring steps can be poor. Different gait types & speed affects measurement.
Important for validity

Anyone who says that rheumatic irAEs aren’t a serious irAE hasn’t met my pts, or @cappelliMD’s, or @CCalabreseDO’s @LCalabreseDO’s, or ⬇️list.
It can be at least as brutal as the cancer, so my pts tell me, & @jhrheumatology has the numbers to prove it.

1. Pain w/ measuring BP (BP cuff test) sens 69%, spec 80%= FM
2. Recurrent troch/anserine bursitis - take off shoes and watch them walk might see hallux rigidis, over pronation- (my hint: look for leg length discrepancy as well)
