FDA grants breakthrough status to OFEV (nintedanib) forthe treatment of chronic fibrosing interstitial lung diseases (ILDs), other than idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (which it is currently approved for). Nintedanib has been studied in PSS ILD. https://t.co/K0ZTyqrfh6

FDA has approved Taltz (ixekizumab) use in Active Ankylosing Spondylitis (Axial Spondyloarthritis). IXE previously approved for psoriasis & PsA. Recommended dose is 160 mg SC (two 80 mg injections) at Week 0, followed by 80 mg every 4 weeks. https://t.co/S8zwuYuK2H

@ClinRheumatol Whoa...this an 11 patient uncontrolled report - not a study and certainly NOT evidence that abatacept works in Sjogrens. ABA is not included in guidelines for, and not approved for use in Sjogrens. Journals who promote$$$ their publications should not be interpreting results!

RCT of 139 knee OA pts given either curcumin 500-mg tid or diclofenac 50-mg bid. At days 14 and 28 both had similar improvement in pain and KOOS score; but curcumin had better tolerance, less GI sxs and H2 blocker use. https://t.co/tcsDQWQOMg

Retrospective review of US-guided Synovial Biopsies performed (clinical practice n=52, research n=12) - syn tissue obtained in 88%. Utility/impact was good (37% Dx impact, >95% PPV or NPV for infection & research 92% success. https://t.co/A7vzIHnKH1

Study of 1272 RA pts, 69.5% were seropositive. Seropositive RA patients had two-fold increased risk for abnormalities on PFTs (ORs ranging from 2.48 RLD, 3.12 COPD & 2.30 DLCO abnl; associations were stronger for RF+ than for CCP+. https://t.co/RQ5GgoGqwA

Retrospective review of temporal artery biopsies from Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye institute from 2007-17 shows the adjusted incidence rate of Bx+ GCA was 3.1 (1.0-5.2) in blacks and 3.6 ( 2.5-4.7) per 100 000 white patients; higher in women (1.9x vs Men) https://t.co/MeO9cBqovg
