There are many unmet needs and challenges in osteoporosis. For example, fewer than 15% of post-fracture patients get treated, and only 10–21% of hip and vertebral fracture patients receive a DXA scan within 12 months
This incredible CARE GAP needs to be narrowed. As rheumatologists, our colleagues refer to us as clever, insightful, and helpful. Let us challenge each other to take osteoporosis more seriously and to find new ways to care for these patients.
Consider starting a FRACTURE LIAISON SERVICE ( FLS ) in efforts to promote secondary fracture prevention. This work can be coordinated with RN’s, PA-C’s , and CRNP’s.
