Abstract L06 shows the efficacy of Emapalumab, an IFN-γ mAb, when given to 9 systemic JIA pts who developed macrophage activation syndrome. Highly effective showing ability to lower steroid use #ACR19 #ACRBest https://t.co/OXTwpkyhlq
At the 2019 meeting, almost 500 presentations discussed new randomized controlled trials. We are lucky to have so much research activity in our field, but applying an RCT to your daily practice can be challenging. Here are three tips to supercharge your critical appraisal!
All the NEW Clinical Practice Guidelines for GOUT!

All the NEW Clinical Practice Guidelines for GOUT! 1. Allopurinol is 1st line 2. Start ULT during flare! 3. No tx for asymptomatic hyperuricemia Seems pretty reasonable - surprised no rec for MTX w/ pegloticase #ACR19 @EBRheum Thank you to @philipcrobinson for posting slides! https://t.co/jWFa8KnWqM

#ACR19 ABST #1590 -3 RCTs show anti-TNFα & IL-12/23 associated w/significant improvement in depressive symptoms in PSA. GO-REVEAL depression ⬇️ 31.2 to 19.5% w/golimumab; PSUMIT1 36.2 to 20.3% & PSUMIT2 37.2 to 21.2% ⬇️ w/UST. minimal change w/PBO in all 3 trials @DrPetryna
This meeting sees new data on using anti-IL-17 agents in non-radiographic axial SpA. Up until now these patients have only had TNF inhibitors available, so data about the efficacy of IL17 inhibitors is really important.
Rheumatic immune-related adverse events can start at almost any time after the commencement after immune checkpoint inhibitor immunotherapy for cancer, and are liable to persist long after the immunotherapy has ceased, according to data presented at ACR 2019 in Atlanta, Georgia.
NEW Guidelines for the Management of GCA from #ACR19 in one table

NEW Guidelines for the Management of GCA from #ACR19 in one table 1. Recommend Temp Art. Bx over TA U/S for dx GCA 2. Pts should receive TCZ up front 3. Don't treat asymptomatic CRP, monitor patients closely Overall in line with my practice, though I'm pro TA U/S @EBRheum https://t.co/gP3Ta8wD1E

A disease you’ve never heard of is becoming increasingly common and carries a very poor prognosis.  For me, one of most important aspects of attending the ACR Annual Meeting is to learn about conditions that I don’t know and that may afflict my patients when I return back home. This year’s meeting was no different.
