I'm a pulmonologist at the University of Kansas in Kansas City, and I'm excited to talk about one of my favorite topics: treatment complications in rheumatoid arthritis- associated interstitial lung disease or RA-ILD. One of the reasons I think this is a pressing and important topic is what we're dealing with here is a group of patients who have really poor outcomes, even with the significant advances that the rheumatology community's been able to make in the management of the underlying synovial disease.

  • Dr. Matson studied medicine (MD 2013) at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. Following graduation he completed internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Colorado in Denver. He was selected in 2017 as chief medical resident at the University of Colorado. Following chief residency he completed a combined pulmonary and critical care fellowship at the University of Colorado and National Jewish Hospital. During his fellowship, Dr. Matson pursued advanced training in interstitial lung disease at the University of Colorado Center for Lungs and Breathing as well as National Jewish Hospital. At the University of Kansas, Dr. Matson sees patients in the Interstitial Lung Disease and Rare Lung Disease clinic as well as attends in the medical intensive care unit. He is a clinician scientist with a translational research focus of autoimmune lung disease.
