Top 20 Best Rheumatology Hospitals

U.S. News & World Report has published its Best Hospitals for 2026-2027, listing the best among many specialties, including rheumatology.  Each year U.S. News Best Hospitals ranked hospitals in the U.S. in 14 adult specialties and for the 9th year in a row, Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore has been named the top hospital for rheumatology. Of the nearly 4,500 hospitals analyzed and more than 300,000 physicians surveyed, only 178 hospitals ranked in at least one of the specialties.

To determine the Best Hospitals, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,400 hospitals’ performance on objective measures, measuring patient outcomes using data from over 800 million records of patient care.  U.S. News evaluates hospitals that service the following 15 specialties and 22 procedures & conditions.  The 17 best rheumatology hospitals ranked in were recommended by at least 3% of the rheumatology specialists responding to U.S. News surveys in 2024, 2025 and 2026. Another 18 hospitals were recommended by at least 1% of the respondents.  

The top 18 rheumatology hospitals are largely the same as last year (with some minor shuffling). At the top of the list are Johns Hopkins Hospital, Cleveland Clinic, Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), Mayo Clinic, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and the Massachusetts General Hospital. 

The top 20 rheumatology hospitals are:

  3. HSS, New York–Presbyterian University Hospital of Columbia and Cornell
  4. Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota
  5. Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston
  6. Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston
  7. UCSF Health-UCSF Medical Center, San Francisco
  8. UCLA Medical Center, Los Angeles
  9. NYU Langone Hospitals, New York City
  10. University of Michigan Health, Ann Arbor
  11. University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital
  12. Hospitals of the University of Pennsylvania-Penn Presbyterian, Philadelphia, PA
  13. Duke University Hospital, Durham, North Carolina
  14. UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside, Pittsburgh, PA
  15. Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Columbus, OH
  16. Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Saint Louis, MO
