All physicians contribute equally to the health of our country. Why the pay disparity? Equalize pay across specialties and you do not have to increase the cost. Moreover you will shore up the specialties in short supply (bottom ten) by boosting there incomes. It is all in the numbers. Rheumatology does not have to do a song and dance. We need higher pay to attract more physicians as does pediatrics, endocrine, infectious disease and all the other specialties in the bottom ten. This is not rocket since it is first grade math.
